Voice and Acting Coach in Long Beach
Build a stronger voice, sharper storytelling, and a performance people actually remember.
If you are looking for a voice coach in Long Beach who understands both vocal technique and acting through song, this coaching is designed to help you grow faster and perform with more truth, confidence, and impact.
I specialize in the merger of singing and acting, because the most exciting performers do more than sing well. They communicate. They connect. They make the audience believe every word.
Many teachers focus only on vocal exercises. My coaching is built around the full performance: technique, text, intention, musical phrasing, emotional truth, and how all of it works together in the body and voice.
In musical theatre especially, a beautiful sound is only part of the job. You also need to tell a story clearly, connect to lyric, shape a phrase with purpose, and make every moment feel alive. That is where this work becomes different.
I help students understand not just how to sing, but why a performance lands. We work on healthy vocal production and expressive delivery at the same time so your voice becomes more reliable, more resonant, and more emotionally compelling.
I often describe myself as the auto mechanic of the voice. I can hear with unusual detail what needs to shift for better resonance, vibrato, tone, placement, freedom, clarity, and connection.
Lessons are focused, efficient, and highly personalized. We do not stay vague. We identify the issue, address the cause, and apply the change directly to real material.
My coaching is specific, practical, and built for real performance situations. Students come to me because they want clear answers, honest feedback, and changes they can actually hear.
I can quickly identify the technical adjustments that will make the biggest difference in pitch, breath coordination, resonance, vibrato, tone, placement, registration, and overall vocal freedom.
We connect lyric, intention, emotional stakes, and physical behavior so your acting choices strengthen the singing instead of getting in the way of it.
This is not endless abstract warmup work. We apply technique directly to songs, auditions, performances, and the material that matters most to you.
Every student is different. Some need confidence. Some need technical clarity. Some need stronger storytelling. Some need all of it at once. The work is tailored to where you are.
With training in songwriting, music production, and musical theatre writing, I help students understand how the music itself supports emotion, structure, and dramatic impact.
I am direct, encouraging, and serious about helping you improve. The goal is not to flatter you. The goal is to make you better.
Whether you are preparing one important song or building long-term skill, I can help you shape material that feels polished, specific, and performance-ready.
Strengthen your instrument with work on pitch, breath coordination, resonance, vibrato, tone, placement, range, and vocal freedom.
Learn how to make every lyric specific, connected, and dramatically alive so your songs stop feeling generalized and start landing.
Prepare cuts, songs, monologues, callbacks, and presentation choices that showcase who you are and what makes you memorable.
Refine repertoire for live performance with stronger storytelling, better pacing, and more confident delivery.
Develop your own material with guidance on songwriting, vocal delivery, performance choices, and how to communicate your artistic voice.
This site focuses on musical theatre, but I have been a piano bar performer for decades and can work across many genres of music.
Students work with David Jayden Anthony for musical theatre coaching in Long Beach, singing lessons, acting coaching, audition preparation, college audition coaching, live performance prep, and original material development.
I work with a wide range of singers, actors, and performers. The common thread is that they want stronger technique and more powerful communication.
My background combines performance, education, writing, and musicianship in a way that directly supports singers and actors.
I am a Long Beach-based voice and acting coach, musical theatre writer, educator, pianist, and performer. My coaching is shaped by both deep technical listening and a strong understanding of storytelling, composition, and performance.
I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Songwriting and Music Production from Berklee College of Music, which gave me a strong foundation in commercial music, vocal expression, songwriting, and contemporary performance. I also earned a Master’s degree in Writing and Production for Musical Theatre from Berklee NYC, where I deepened my work in musical storytelling, dramatic structure, and character-driven performance.
While this site focuses on musical theatre, my experience extends well beyond one style. I have been a piano bar performer for decades, which means I am comfortable helping singers in many genres find an approach that feels authentic, musical, and effective.
I also have extensive experience helping students prepare for highly competitive musical theatre opportunities, including getting students into top college theatre programs.
I am an OCSA alumnus and have taught at OCSA, making OCSA audition preparation one of my specialties. There will be a separate page dedicated to OCSA auditions, as well as a separate page for college auditions, but that expertise is already built into the way I coach.
The difference is not just experience. It is the combination of fast technical diagnosis, deep musical understanding, and a sharp eye for storytelling.

I’m David Jayden Anthony — a voice teacher, acting coach, composer, and longtime musical theatre educator with 20+ years of experience on both coasts. With degrees from Berklee (Songwriting & Music Production) and BerkleeNYC (Musical Theatre Writing), I blend performance, composition, and pedagogy to help artists unlock their story and sound—fast.

To the left is a student who had never been able to belt. She entered head-voice right away. I checked her for tension and then it happened. Tears of joy over her new-found power!
“I have trained with many voice teachers in both Los Angeles and New York City and I can honestly say David Anthony is one in a million! As a vocal coach David is committed to not only your vocal progression but your overall success and you are Undoubtably getting more than you’re paying for. David is excellent in providing technical training but you also get a teacher who can really help you develop as an overall performer. He has a keen ability to isolate your weaknesses and help correct them while reenforcing your strengths and helping you capitalize on them… CONTINUED
I first met David Anthony when I was eleven years old through McCoy Rigby Musical Theatre Conservatory where he was music directing multiple shows during their summer stock season. I then went on to continue taking classes from David through the McCoy Rigby Conservatory and through MTU – Musical Theatre University. Shortly there after, I started to take private voice lessons with him. I have been training with David for almost 10 years now and he has had a huge impact on my life. He has acted as my teacher and mentor and he has inspired me to do things I did not think were possible… CONTINUED
Ever since I began vocal lessons with David, my singing has monumentally changed. I had been to multiple teachers in the past for my voice, and although they were all great, none of their teaching styles made sense to me like David’s. While catering specifically to my needs, he knew how to prioritize the most important vocal adjustment to unlock parts of my voice I didn’t know I had. Furthermore, something I’ve found that works for me in my learning is the passion a teacher brings to the subject they teach. David Anthony is an intense teacher when he sees that his students really want to improve. He truly hopes to help people become better performers, and there have been countless times where he will, after spending hours outside of our lessons thinking, come back with an answer to a problem we’ve been stumped on. Remember how I said he prioritizes the most important thing, he constantly prioritizes his students even outside of lessons… CONTINUED
